Sayyiduna Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: At the Farewell Pilgrimage we were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). We reached a place called Ghadir Khumm, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had it announced that everyone should gather, so we, the Muhajirun and the Ansar, gathered. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood in our midst and said: O people, what do you bear witness to? We said: We bear witness that there is no god but Allah Almighty. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: And what else do you bear witness to? They said: That Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is His servant and His Messenger. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Who is your wali? The people said: Allah and His Messenger are our mawla. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Who is your wali? Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) placed his hand on the upper arm of Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and made him stand up; then he let go of his upper arm, took hold of his forearm, and said: "Whoever has Allah and His Messenger as his mawla, this one too is his mawla. O Allah, love whoever loves him and be hostile to whoever is hostile to him. O Allah, whoever among the people loves him, be loving towards that person, and whoever detests him, be angry with him. O Allah, after the two righteous ones I find no one other than You to whom I could entrust him in the earth, so decree good for him." The narrator Bishr says: I asked my teacher: Who were those two righteous servants? He replied: I do not know.
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains Bishr bin Harb, who is layyin (soft, weak), and it also contains a narrator I do not know.
