Yahya bin Bukayr states: (After the martyrdom of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him)) the people of the Shura agreed upon the selection of Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him). This was when three days of Dhu al-Hijjah remained, in the year 23 AH. Sayyiduna Uthman al-Ghani (may Allah be pleased with him) was martyred on a Friday, the 18th of Dhu al-Hijjah, in the year 35 AH, at the age of 88. He used to dye his beard yellow. The caliphate of Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) lasted twelve years.
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
