Ishaq bin Abdullah bin Abi Talhah narrates the following statement of his grandmother, Sayyidah Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her): She lived in the neighbourhood of Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her), the honourable wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Sayyidah Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "O Messenger of Allah! What is your view about this: if a woman sees in a dream that her husband is having intercourse with her, should she perform a ritual bath (ghusl)?" Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "O Umm Sulaym! May your hands be covered in dust! You have embarrassed the women before the Messenger of Allah." Sayyidah Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "Indeed, Allah Almighty is not shy of the truth. That we ask the Messenger of Allah about a matter that confuses us is better than remaining in the dark about it." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Umm Salamah! Rather, may your hands be covered in dust! Such a woman must perform ghusl when she finds the fluid (i.e. the sign of a wet dream)." Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) asked: "O Messenger of Allah! Does a woman also have fluid (i.e. the discharge of a wet dream)?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then why does her child resemble her? These women are just like men."
Ahmad recorded it, and it is recorded in the Sahih in abridged form. The narrator Ishaq did not hear from Sayyidah Umm Sulaym.
