Majma al-Zawaid 14484 — The death of Umar
وَعَنِ اللَّيْثِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ قَالَ : قُتِلَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ عُمَرُ مَصْدَرَ الْحَاجِّ ، وَذَلِكَ فِي سَنَةِ ثَلَاثٍ وَعِشْرِينَ .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَرِجَالُهُ ثِقَاتٌ .

Al-Layth bin Sa'd narrates: The Commander of the Believers, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), was martyred at the time when the pilgrims return, and that was in the year 23 AH.
