Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "From beneath this cluster of trees a man will come before you who is from the people of Paradise." The narrator says: Then Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) appeared, and we congratulated him in accordance with what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had said. Then, after a little while, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "From beneath this cluster a man will come before you; he is from the people of Paradise." Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) appeared, and we congratulated him in accordance with what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had said. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "From beneath this cluster a man will come before you who is from the people of Paradise. O Allah! If You will, make him Ali." He said this three times. The narrator says: Then Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) appeared.
