وَعَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " لَوْ كُنْتُ مُتَّخِذًا خَلِيلًا ، لَاتَّخَذْتُ أَبَا بَكْرٍ خَلِيلًا ، وَلَكِنَّ أُخُوَّةَ الْإِسْلَامِ أَفْضَلُ " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ ، وَفِيهِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْوَاسِطِيُّ ، وَلَمْ أَعْرِفْهُ .

Sayyidah Aishah Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If I were to take anyone as a khalil (intimate friend), I would take Abu Bakr as a khalil; however, the brotherhood of Islam is more excellent."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains a narrator, Ali bin Abd al-Rahman al-Wasiti, and I do not know him.
