Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 14238

Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent him to Yemen, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also went out with him, giving him advice. Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) was riding, while the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) walked alongside his mount. When he had finished speaking, he said: "O Mu'adh, perhaps we will not meet after this year of mine; perhaps you will pass by this mosque of mine and my grave." Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) wept out of grief at parting from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned, faced towards Madinah, and said: "The people closest to me are the God-fearing, whoever they may be and wherever they may be."
Ahmad recorded it with two chains. In one of the chains he said: from Asim bin Humayd that Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated it, and in that narration he recorded these words: "O Mu'adh, do not weep! For weeping is from Satan." (The narrator is unsure about one word here.) The narrators of both chains are the narrators of the "Sahih", except Rashid bin Sa'd and Asim bin Humayd, and both of them are thiqah (trustworthy).
