Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 14162

Sayyiduna Ya'la bin Siyabah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I was travelling with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He intended to relieve himself, so he commanded two small date palms, and one of them joined the other. Then he commanded the two of them, and they both went back to the places where they grew. Likewise, a camel came and laid its neck on the ground; it began making sounds and weeping until the place around it became wet. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you know what this camel is saying? It says that its owner intends to slaughter it." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a message to its owner, called him and said: "Will you give this camel to me as a gift?" He said: "O Messenger of Allah! I have no property dearer to me than it." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then accept the advice to treat it well." He said: "This is a must, O Messenger of Allah, that I honour this property." (The narrator narrates:) Once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by a grave; he came to it, and the person in that grave was being punished. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He is not being punished for something (apparently) major." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave an order regarding a branch, and it was placed on his grave, and he said: "It may be that, as long as this remains fresh, (until then) this person's punishment will be lightened."
Ahmad recorded it, and al-Tabarani recorded something similar, except that he recorded these words: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to two graves." The chain of this report is hasan (good).
