Sulayman bin Amr bin al-Ahwas al-Azdi narrates: My mother told me that she saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stoning the Jamrah from the low part of the valley. Behind him was a person who was shielding him from the people, lest their stones should hit him, and he was saying: "O people! Do not kill one another. When you throw stones, throw stones that can be held between the fingers." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) moved forward, and a woman brought her son to him. She said: "O Prophet of Allah! This son of mine has lost his mind; supplicate to Allah Almighty for him." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the woman: "Bring me water!" The woman brought water in a bowl made of stone. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) put some of his saliva in it and washed his face in it, then supplicated over it, then said: "Go and bathe this boy with it, and seek healing from Allah Almighty!" The narrating woman says: I said to that woman: "Give me a little of this water as well, for this son of mine." So I took a little of the water with my fingers and passed my hand over my son with it, and he became the healthiest of people. Later I asked that woman: "How is her son?" She told me that he had recovered completely. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Abu Dawud recorded from this narration the part about stoning the Jamarat.
Ahmad and al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators have been declared trustworthy, though there is weakness in some of its narrators.
