وَعَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ : إِنِ اللَّهَ فَضَّلَ مُحَمَّدًا عَلَى أَهْلِ السَّمَاءِ وَعَلَى أَهْلِ الْأَرْضِ ، فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ : يَا أَبَا عَبَّاسٍ وَبِمَا فَضَّلَهُ عَلَى أَهْلِ السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ ؟ قَالَ : إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ يَقُولُ لِأَهْلِ السَّمَاءِ : ( وَمَنْ يَقُلْ مِنْهُمْ إِنِّي إِلَهٌ مِنْ دُونِهِ فَذَلِكَ نَجْزِيهِ جَهَنَّمَ كَذَلِكَ نَجْزِي الظَّالِمِينَ ) ، وَقَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لِمُحَمَّدٍ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : ( إِنَّا فَتَحْنَا لَكَ فَتْحًا مُبِينًا لِيَغْفِرَ لَكَ اللَّهُ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِكَ وَمَا تَأَخَّرَ ) فَقِيلَ لَهُ : يَا أَبَا عَبَّاسٍ ، فَمَا فَضْلُهُ عَلَى الْأَنْبِيَاءِ ؟ قَالَ : إِنَّ اللَّهَ - عَزَّ وَجَلَّ - قَالَ : ( وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَا مِنْ رَسُولٍ إِلَّا بِلِسَانِ قَوْمِهِ ) وَقَالَ لِمُحَمَّدٍ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : ( وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَاكَ إِلَّا كَافَّةً لِلنَّاسِ بَشِيرًا وَنَذِيرًا ) فَأَرْسَلَهُ اللَّهُ إِلَى الْإِنْسِ وَالْجِنِّ . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَرِجَالُهُ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ غَيْرَ الْحَكَمِ بْنِ أَبَانَ وَهُوَ ثِقَةٌ . [ وَرَوَاهُ أَبُو يَعْلَى بِاخْتِصَارٍ كَثِيرٍ ] .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: "Indeed, Allah Almighty has given Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) superiority over all the inhabitants of the heavens and all the inhabitants of the earth." A man said: O Abu Abbas, in what respect has Allah Almighty given Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) superiority over the inhabitants of the heavens and the inhabitants of the earth? He said: Allah Almighty has said concerning the inhabitants of the heavens: "And whoever of them says, 'I am a god besides Him,' We will recompense him with Hell; thus do We recompense the wrongdoers." And Allah Almighty has said concerning Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him): "Indeed, We have granted you a clear victory, so that Allah may forgive you your past and future sins." It was said to him: O Abu Abbas, how is he superior to the other prophets? Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Allah Almighty has said: "We did not send any messenger except with the language of his people." And Allah Almighty has said concerning Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him): "And We have not sent you except to all of mankind as a bearer of glad tidings and a warner." So Allah Almighty sent him to mankind and the jinn.
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except al-Hakam bin Aban, and he is thiqah (trustworthy). Abu Ya'la recorded it in a greatly abridged form.
