Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) states: There was a man from Banu Abs named Khalid bin Sinan. He said to his people: "I will extinguish for you the fire of the two lava fields." A man of his people, Umarah bin Ziyad, said to him: "By Allah, O Khalid, whatever you have told us has always proved true; so what is your business with the fire of the two lava fields? You claim that you will extinguish it?" The narrator says: Then Umarah bin Ziyad went with him along with some people of his tribe until they reached it; it was coming out of a cleft of a mountain in a lava field (that is, lava was flowing), which was called Harrat Ashja'. Khalid drew a line for them and seated them within that line, and said: "If I am late in coming back to you, do not call me by my name." The fire (that is, the lava) was coming out like red horses following one another. Then Khalid faced the fire and began striking it with his staff, saying: 'Bada bada, kullu muntaha marada; za'ama Ibn ra'iyat al-mi'za anni la akhruju minha wa thiyabi tanda' (It has appeared, it has appeared; every end has a return. The son of the goat-herding woman claimed that I would not come out of it with my clothes still moist), until he entered the cleft along with the fire, and he was late in coming back to them. The narrator says: Umarah bin Ziyad said: "By Allah, if your companion were alive, he would have come out to you by now." They said: "He forbade us to call him by his name." Umarah said: "Call him by his name. By Allah, if he were alive, he would have come out by now." Someone said: "He forbade us to call him by his name." The narrator says: Then those people called him by his name, and he came out to them holding his head. He said: "Did I not forbid you to call me by my name? By Allah, you have killed me. Now bury me, and when donkeys pass by you among which there is a donkey with a cut tail, dig up my grave; you will find me alive." The narrator says: Then donkeys passed by them among which there was a donkey with a cut tail. Someone said: "Dig up his grave, for he instructed us to dig up his grave." Umarah bin Ziyad said: "Let not the people of Mudar say about us that we dig up the graves of our dead. By Allah, you will never dig up his grave." The narrator states: Khalid had told them that among his wife's belongings there were two tablets (alwah): "When you face difficulty in any matter, look at them, and you will find the answer to what you want to ask about; but no menstruating woman should touch them." The narrator says: When those people came to his wife and asked her for the tablets, the woman brought them out and gave them, and she was menstruating at that time, so the knowledge that was in the tablets disappeared. Abu Yunus says: The narrator Simak stated: The son of Khalid bin Sinan came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Welcome to my brother's son!"
Al-Tabarani recorded it as mawquf. Its chain contains al-Mu'alla bin Mahdi, whom Abu Hatim declared da'if (weak); he says: He sometimes transmits munkar (objectionable) narrations. I say: This is one of those (munkar narrations).
