وَعَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ قَالَ : قَالَ رَجُلٌ عِنْدَ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ خَاتَمِ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ لَا نَبِيَّ بَعْدَهُ . فَقَالَ الْمُغِيرَةُ : حَسْبُكَ أَنْ تَقُولَ خَاتَمَ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ ، فَإِنَّا كُنَّا نُحَدَّثُ أَنَّ عِيسَى بْنَ مَرْيَمَ خَارِجٌ ، فَإِنْ كَانَ خَارِجًا فَقَدْ كَانَ قَبْلَهُ وَبَعْدَهُ . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَفِيهِ مُجَالِدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ ، وَقَدْ ضَعَّفَهُ جَمَاعَةٌ وَوُثِّقَ ، وَبَقِيَّةُ رِجَالِهِ ثِقَاتٌ .
Imam al-Sha'bi states: A man said in the presence of Sayyiduna al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him): "May Allah Almighty send blessings upon Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), who is the Seal of the Prophets, and there will be no prophet after him." Sayyiduna al-Mughirah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "It would have been enough for you to say that he is the Seal of the Prophets, for we used to speak of Sayyiduna Isa bin Maryam (peace be upon him) appearing; and if he appears, then he was before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and will also be after him."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains Mujalid bin Sa'id, who is da'if (weak). A group declared him weak, though he has also been declared trustworthy, and the rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
