Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 13776

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The speech with which Allah Almighty addressed Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) consisted of one hundred and forty thousand words over three days. When Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) heard the speech of human beings, he felt aversion towards it, because the speech of the Lord had reached his ears. Among what the Lord said to him in that address was: 'Those who strive to please Me have done no deed like detachment from the world, those who seek nearness to Me have not drawn near to Me through anything like scrupulous abstinence, that is, abstaining from what I have made unlawful for them, and the worshippers have not worshipped Me with anything like weeping out of fear of Me.' Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) said: 'O Lord of all creation! O Master of the Day of Resurrection! O Possessor of Majesty and Honour! What have You prepared for them, and what will You reward them with?' The Lord said: 'As for those who are detached from the world, I have made My Paradise permissible for them; they will settle in it wherever they wish. As for the scrupulous who keep away from what I have made unlawful for them, when the Day of Resurrection comes I will take account of every servant, except the scrupulous; their case is different, for I will feel shy before them, I will honour them, and I will admit them into Paradise without reckoning. As for those who weep out of fear of Me, for them is the Highest Companionship, and no one else will share it with them.'"
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains Juwaybir, who is extremely da'if (weak).
