Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed Allah Almighty gave me the choice between His forgiving half of my Ummah, or granting me intercession, and I chose intercession, and I hope that it will be general for my Ummah. Had it not been for what had already come about, which a righteous servant had supplicated for, I would have hastened my supplication. When Allah Almighty relieved Sayyiduna Ishaq (peace be upon him) of the distress of being sacrificed, it was said to him: 'O Ishaq, ask, and you will be given.' He said: 'By Allah, I will hasten with it before the promptings of Satan: O Allah, whoever dies in such a state that he associates nothing with You has done well, so forgive him.'"
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains Abd al-Rahman bin Zayd bin Aslam, who is da'if (weak), and I do not know al-Tabarani's teacher.
