Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A woman came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and his Companions were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The woman went around them but found no place. A man perceived her need; he stood up and the woman sat down there. When her need was fulfilled she got up. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to that man: "Do you know this woman?" He replied: "No." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then you showed mercy to her; may Allah Almighty have mercy on you." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said these words three times.
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains Abd al-Hamid bin Sulayman, whom Abu Dawud and others declared thiqah (trustworthy), while Yahya bin Ma'in and others declared him da'if (weak). The remaining narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy).
