Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 13388

عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ : إِنَّمَا سُمِّيَ الْإِنْسَانُ لِأَنَّهُ عُهِدَ إِلَيْهِ فَنَسِيَ . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الصَّغِيرِ ، وَفِيهِ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عِصَامٍ وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Man was given the name insan (human) because a covenant was taken from him, and then he forgot (that covenant).
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Saghir, and its chain contains a narrator, Ahmad bin Isam, who is da'if (weak).
