Sayyiduna al-Nabighah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and recited to him this verse of mine: "We have risen above people in chastity and nobility, and beyond that we also hope to attain a 'mazhar' (high place)." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: O Abu Layla, where is the 'mazhar'? I submitted: By it is meant Paradise. He said: If Allah wills, you will attain it. Then he said: Recite poetry to me. So I recited to him these verses of mine: "There is no good in forbearance that is not accompanied by an anger that protects its clarity from becoming muddied, and there is no good in ignorance (that is, anger) for which there is no forbearance that can turn it (the anger) back when need arises." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You have composed well. May Allah Almighty not cause (the teeth of) your mouth to fall out."
Al-Bazzar recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Ya'la bin al-Ashdaq, who is da'if (weak).
