Sayyiduna Khalid bin Ubaydullah bin Harmalah al-Mudliji (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stopped at Usfan. A man said: "Are you interested in the noblest women and the finest tawny camels of Banu Mudlij?" Among those present was a man from Banu Mudlij, and we could recognise displeasure in his face. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The best of people is the one who defends his own people, as long as it is not a sinful matter."
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains narrators whom I do not know.
