عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ عِلَاقَةَ قَالَ : نَالَ الْمُغِيرَةُ بْنُ شُعْبَةَ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ زَيْدُ بْنُ أَرْقَمَ : عَلِمْتُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - كَانَ يَنْهَانَا عَنْ سَبِّ الْمَوْتَى ، فَلِمَ تَسُبُّ عَلِيًّا - رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ - وَقَدْ مَاتَ ؟ .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ بِأَسَنَانِيدَ ، وَرِجَالُ أَحَدِ أَسَانِيدِ الطَّبَرَانِيِّ ثِقَاتٌ .

Ziyad bin Ilaqah narrates: Sayyiduna al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him) criticised Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), so Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: "You know that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade us from reviling the dead, so why are you criticising Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) when he has passed away?"
Al-Tabarani recorded it with several chains, and the narrators of one of al-Tabarani's chains are thiqat (trustworthy).
