وَعَنْ خَيْثَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ : أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - مَعَ أَبِي وَأَنَا غُلَامٌ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " مَا اسْمُ ابْنِكَ هَذَا ؟ " . قَالَ : اسْمُهُ عَزِيزٌ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " لَا تُسَمِّهِ عَزِيزًا ، وَلَكِنْ سَمِّهِ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ ، فَإِنَّ أَحَبَّ الْأَسْمَاءِ إِلَى اللَّهِ : عَبْدُ اللَّهِ وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَرِجَالُهُ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .

Khaythamah bin Abd al-Rahman narrates this statement of his father: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with my father while I was a boy. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: What is your son's name? He said: His name is Aziz. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not name him Aziz; rather, name him Abd al-Rahman, for the most beloved names to Allah Almighty are Abdullah and Abd al-Rahman."
