Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 12828

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin al-Shikhkhir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked a man's name and it was good, the pleasure could be recognised in his face; and if it was otherwise, he disliked it. When he halted at a town, he would ask its name. If its name was good, he was pleased with that, and if it was otherwise (that is, bad), that could be seen in his face.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except for Sa'id bin Bashir, who is thiqah (trustworthy) but has some weakness.
