Abu Salih narrates: Sayyiduna Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) sought permission to enter upon Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her), and Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) gave him permission. He asked: "Is Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) here?" The household said: "No." So he went back. Later he sought permission from her a second time and asked: "Is Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) here?" The household said: "Yes." So he came into the house. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) asked him: "When you did not find me here, why did you not come in at that time?" Sayyiduna Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade us from going in to women whose husbands are not present at home." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say:
Imam al-Tirmidhi also recorded this narration, but he mentioned Sayyidah Asma' (may Allah be pleased with her) in place of Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her).
Imam Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except that the narrator Abu Salih did not hear from Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her). He did hear from Sayyiduna Amr (may Allah be pleased with him).
