Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was leading the people in prayer when a man came into the mosque and fell into a pit that was in the mosque; this man had weak eyesight. Many of the people laughed, even though they were in prayer. (After the prayer) the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever laughed (during the prayer) should perform ablution again and pray again.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Muhammad bin Abd al-Malik al-Daqiqi, and I have not seen anyone give his biography. The remaining narrators of this report have been declared trustworthy.
