وَعَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَيُدْرِكُ بِحُسْنِ خُلُقِهِ دَرَجَةَ الْقَائِمِ بِاللَّيْلِ ، الظَّامِئِ بِالْهَوَاجِرِ " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَفِيهِ عُفَيْرُ بْنُ مَعْدَانَ وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ .

Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A man, through his good character, reaches the rank of one who stands in voluntary prayer at night and goes thirsty in the midday heat (that is, one who keeps voluntary fasts)."
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains Ufayr bin Ma'dan, who is da'if (weak).
