Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Jarir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) entered a house that was full of people and found no place to sit, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) threw his cloak to him and said: "Sit on this." He took it, kissed it, held it to himself and said: O Messenger of Allah! May Allah Almighty honour you as you have honoured me. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When the honoured one of a people comes to you, honour him."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and al-Bazzar recorded it in very abridged form. Its chain contains narrators whom I do not know.
