Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 1257

Sayyiduna Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) led the people in prayer, and something (wind) passed from a person. He said: I urge the one responsible for this to perform ablution and repeat the prayer. Sayyiduna Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Rather, urge everyone who heard it to perform ablution and repeat the prayer. He said: How excellent is what you have said; may Allah reward you with good! And he ordered them to do so.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih. A hadith prohibiting laughing at someone breaking wind has already preceded.
