Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Every single prophet warned his nation about the Dajjal, and I am warning you about him. He will be one-eyed; one of his eyes will be clearly protruding, and it will be like phlegm on a wall, and his left eye will be like a shining star. With him will be a paradise and a hell: his paradise will be a smoky spring, and his hell will be a green garden. Before him two men will keep warning the people of every town; whenever those two men leave a town, the first of the Dajjal's followers will enter it. He will be given power over one man, and he will not be given power over anyone else. He will slaughter him, then strike him with a staff and say: 'Get up.' Then he will say to his companions: 'What do you think, am I not your Lord?' His companions will bear witness to him with shirk (associating partners with Allah). Then the man who was slaughtered will say: 'O people, this is the Dajjal whom the Messenger of Allah warned us about.' Then he will slaughter him again, then strike him with the staff and say to him: 'Get up.' Then he will say to his companions: 'What do you think, am I not your Lord?' His companions will bear witness to him with shirk, and the slaughtered man will say: 'O people, this is the Dajjal whom the Messenger of Allah warned us about,' and (then, addressing the Dajjal, he will say): 'This has only increased my insight about you.' Then the Dajjal will slaughter him a third time, then strike him with the staff and say: 'Get up.' Then he will ask his companions: 'What do you think, am I not your Lord?' His companions will bear witness to him with shirk, and he (the man) will say: 'O people, this is the Dajjal whom the Messenger of Allah warned us about, and this has only increased my insight about you.' Then he will want to slaughter him a fourth time, but Allah Almighty will place a piece of brass on that man's neck, so the Dajjal will not be able to slaughter him." Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) said: By Allah, I heard the word "nuhas" (i.e. copper) only on that day. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "After that, people will farm." Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We used to think that this man would be Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), because we knew of his strength and firmness. (Al-Haythami says:) I say:
This narration is reported in the "Sahih" in abridged form.
Abu Ya'la and al-Bazzar recorded it. Its chain contains al-Hajjaj bin Artah, who is a mudallis, and Atiyyah, who is da'if (weak), though he has been declared trustworthy.
