Suwayd bin Hujayr states: My maternal uncle told me this; he says: I met the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) between Arafah and Muzdalifah. I took hold of the rein of his (peace and blessings be upon him) she-camel and said: O Messenger of Allah! What can bring me close to Paradise and keep me far from Hell? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You have asked briefly, but you have inquired about something weighty and lengthy. Perform the obligatory prayer, pay the obligatory zakah, perform Hajj to the House of Allah; whatever you like people to do to you, do the same to them; and whatever you dislike people doing to you, do not do that to people. And let go of the she-camel's rein!
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Qaz'ah bin Suwayd, whom Yahya bin Ma'in and others declared thiqah (trustworthy), while Imam al-Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) and others declared him da'if (weak).
