Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) reports this as a marfu' hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Among the signs of the nearness of the Hour is that the new moon will be seen on one night, and it will be said: This is the moon of two nights; mosques will be made into thoroughfares; and sudden death will become common."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Saghir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. He narrated it from his teacher al-Haytham bin Khalid al-Missisi, who is da'if (weak). The chains of this report have already passed in the Book of Fasting, in the chapter on sighting the new moon.
