Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: In the blessed time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) a man was killed whose killer could not be identified. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ascended the pulpit and said: "O people! Has a man been killed while I am present among you, and the one who killed him cannot be identified? If the inhabitants of the heaven and the earth all gathered together and killed a Muslim, Allah Almighty would punish them all without number and without reckoning."
Al-Tabarani recorded this narration, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except for Ata bin Abi Muslim: Ibn Hibban declared him thiqah (trustworthy), and a group declared him da'if (weak).
