Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say to Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him): "O Thawban! What will become of you when the nations call one another against you just as you call one another to a bowl of food and partake of it? Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! May my father and mother be sacrificed for you, will this be because of our small numbers? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No, at that time you will be many in number, but weakness will be cast into your hearts. The people said: O Messenger of Allah! What is meant by weakness? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Your love of the world and your dislike of fighting."
Ahmad recorded it, and al-Tabarani recorded something similar in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; Ahmad's chain is jayyid (good).
