Uqayl bin Khalid narrates that his father was with al-Hajjaj when he martyred Sayyiduna Abdullah bin al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with them both). Al-Hajjaj sent him to Sayyidah Asma bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with them both) and said to him: Tell this lady that al-Hajjaj says to her: Separate your own property from the property of Abdullah bin al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with them both). Sayyidah Asma (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Would the son of Asma have done such a thing? I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Two men will emerge from the tribe of Thaqif, one of whom will lie (that is, falsely claim prophethood) and the other will shed much blood." (Then Sayyidah Asma, may Allah be pleased with her, said:) As for the false claimant to prophethood, we have already come to know him, and as for the one who sheds much blood, I think it is this man (that is, al-Hajjaj bin Yusuf). The narrator says: I went back to al-Hajjaj and told him about this, and he did not dislike it.
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains Abu Zayd Abd al-Rahman bin Abi al-Ghamr, and I do not know this narrator.
