Sayyiduna al-Zubayr bin al-Awwam (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates concerning this saying of Allah Almighty: Allah, the Exalted, says: "And fear a trial which will not afflict exclusively those among you who have done wrong." Sayyiduna al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "In the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), in the time of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), in the time of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and in the time of Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) we used to talk about this, and we did not think that we would be the people concerned with it, until this trial descended among us."
Al-Bazzar recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Hajjaj bin Nusayr, whom Ibn Hibban mentioned in Kitab al-Thiqat, saying: "He makes mistakes and errs." According to one report Yahya bin Ma'in declared him thiqah (trustworthy), and a group declared him da'if (weak); the remaining narrators of this report are the narrators of the Sahih.
