عَنْ عِصْمَةَ بْنِ قَيْسٍ السُّلَمِيِّ صَاحِبِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - [ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ] - أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَتَعَوَّذُ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ الْمَشْرِقِ ، قِيلَ لَهُ : فَكَيْفَ فِتْنَةُ الْمَغْرِبِ ؟ قَالَ : " تِلْكَ أَعْظَمُ وَأَعْظَمُ " .

Sayyiduna Ismah bin Qays al-Sulami (may Allah be pleased with him), who was a Companion of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), reports about the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he used to seek refuge from the trial (fitnah) of the East. It was said to him (peace and blessings be upon him): "What then will the trial of the West be like?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That will be greater, and greater still."
