Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 11869

Muhammad bin Ubayd relates about Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): It was said to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): "A man has come to us who denies destiny (qadar)." Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "Take me to this man!" The narrator says: He had become blind by that time. A man asked: "O Ibn Abbas! What will you do with him?" He said: "By the One in whose Hand is my soul, if I get hold of him, I will cut off his nose, and if my hand reaches his neck, I will break his neck. For I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'It is as if I see the women of Banu Fihr circling around al-Khazraj, their bodies swaying as they commit polytheism (shirk). This will be the first polytheism in this Ummah. By the One in whose Hand is my soul, the corruption of these people's opinion will carry them on until they exclude Allah Almighty from having decreed good, just as they had earlier excluded Allah Almighty from having decreed evil.'"
Ahmad recorded it through two routes; its chain contains a narrator, Muhammad bin Ubayd al-Makki, whom Ibn Hibban declared thiqah (trustworthy) and Abu Hatim declared da'if (weak). In the chain of one of these two narrations there is a narrator who is not named, and in the other chain he named him al-Ala' bin al-Hajjaj, whom al-Azdi declared da'if (weak). In the "Musnad" he stated: Muhammad bin Ubayd heard from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both).
