Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came out of the door of the house, intending to go to the chamber. He heard the voices of some people who were arguing about destiny (qadar) and saying: "Did Allah Almighty not say such-and-such? Did Allah Almighty not say such-and-such?" The narrator says: Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) opened the door, and it seemed (from the intensity of his anger) as though pomegranate seeds had been burst upon his face. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Is this what you have been commanded? Is this what is wanted of you? Those before you were destroyed only because of things like this: they set one part of the Book of Allah Almighty against another. Whatever Allah Almighty commands you, follow it, and whatever He has forbidden you, refrain from it!" The narrator says: After that, no one was ever heard speaking about destiny, until the time of Ma'bad al-Juhani came (and he began this), and al-Hajjaj seized him and had him killed.
Abu Ya'la recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Yusuf bin Atiyyah, who is matruk (abandoned).
