عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ بْنِ الْيَمَانِ قَالَ : قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " اقْرَءُوا الْقُرْآنَ بِلُحُونِ الْعَرَبِ وَأَصْوَاتِهَا ، وَإِيَّاكُمْ وَلُحُونَ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابَيْنِ وَأَهْلِ الْفِسْقِ ، فَإِنَّهُ سَيَجِيءُ بَعْدِي أَقْوَامٌ يُرَجِّعُونَ بِالْقُرْآنِ تَرْجِيعَ الْغِنَاءِ وَالرَّهْبَانِيَّةِ وَالنَّوْحِ ، لَا يُجَاوِزُ حَنَاجِرَهُمْ ، مَفْتُونَةٌ قُلُوبُهُمْ ، وَقُلُوبُ مَنْ يُعْجِبُهُمْ شَأْنُهُمْ " . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ ، وَفِيهِ رَاوٍ لَمْ يُسَمَّ وَبَقِيَّةُ أَيْضًا .
Sayyiduna Hudhayfah bin al-Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) states: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Recite the Qur'an according to the intonations and voices of the Arabs, and beware of the intonations of the People of the Book and of the sinful. Soon after me people will come who will trill their voices in the Qur'an as is done in singing, as is done in monasticism and as is done in wailing. It (the Qur'an) will not go beyond their throats. Their hearts will be put to trial, and the hearts of those who admire them will also be put to trial."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator who has not been named, and a narrator Baqiyyah.
