Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Whoever listens attentively to a single verse of the Book of Allah, a good deed will be recorded for him that will keep multiplying; and whoever recites that verse, it will be a light for him on the Day of Resurrection."
Imam Ahmad recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Abbad bin Maysarah. Imam Ahmad and others declared him da'if (weak). According to one report Yahya bin Ma'in also declared him da'if, and according to another he called him da'if (this is how it appears in the text, but it is perhaps a printing or copyist's error). Ibn Hibban called him thiqah (trustworthy).
