Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 11617

Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not say 'Surah al-Baqarah', or 'Surah Al Imran', or 'Surah al-Nisa'! The whole Qur'an (that is, its ruling) is like this. Rather, say: 'The surah in which the cow is mentioned', 'the surah in which the family of Imran is mentioned', and such is the ruling for the whole Qur'an."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Ubays bin Maymun, who is matruk (abandoned).
