Al-A'mash narrates: I heard Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) say about the saying of Allah Almighty "wa aqwamu qila" (and more upright in speech): it can also be "wa asdaqu" (and more truthful). It was said to him: But you recite "wa aqwamu." He said: "Aqwam" and "asdaq" have one and the same meaning.
Al-Bazzar recorded it, and Abu Ya'la recorded something similar, except that he transmitted these words: "wa aswabu qila" (and more correct in speech), and he said that aqwam, aswab, ahya and other words like these have one and the same meaning. In it, al-A'mash did not say "I heard Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him)." The narrators of Abu Ya'la are the narrators of the Sahih, and the narrators of al-Bazzar are thiqat (trustworthy).
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Other hadiths of this kind have already passed in the chapter relating to their respective surahs.
