Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 11495

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Whenever the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: "And by the soul and He who proportioned it, and inspired it with its wickedness and its righteousness," the narrator says: whenever the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this, he would pause and supplicate: "O Allah! Grant my soul its righteousness. Indeed, You are its Guardian and the best of those who purify it."
Tabarani recorded it, and its chain is hasan (good).
