Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 11485

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: When Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with revelation, before he had finished conveying the revelation, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would begin repeating its opening part, out of fear that he would be overcome (by it). Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Why do you do this?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Out of fear that I may forget." So Allah Almighty revealed this verse: "We will make you recite, so you will not forget."
Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Juwaybir, who is da'if (weak).
