Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) relates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: "A Day that will turn children grey-haired, (and) the sky." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: That is the Day of Resurrection, the Day on which Allah Almighty will say to Sayyiduna Adam (peace be upon him): Rise and send a party of your offspring to Hell. He will say: O my Lord! Out of how many (how many people)? The Lord will say: Out of every thousand, send nine hundred and ninety-nine to Hell, and one will be saved. This weighed heavily on the Muslims, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) perceived this in them. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw this on their faces, he said: "The children of Adam will be very numerous, and Gog and Magog are also among the children of Adam. Not one of them dies until a thousand of his own offspring have become his heirs. So in them and those like them is a shield for you (that is, they will go to Hell)."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Uthman bin Ata al-Khurasani, who is da'if (weak).
