Sayyiduna Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to a group of his companions: "I am about to recite to you the last verses of Surah al-Zumar; whoever among you weeps, Paradise will become obligatory for him." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: "And they did not appreciate Allah Almighty with the appreciation that was His due." He recited it from here to the end of the surah. Some of us wept and some of us did not weep. Those who had not wept said: "O Messenger of Allah! We tried our utmost to weep, but we could not weep." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I will recite it to you again; whoever cannot weep, let him make himself weep (put on the appearance of weeping)."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains Bakr bin Khunays, who is matruk (abandoned).
