Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: I used to recite this verse, but I did not understand what was meant by "the evening and the sunrise (al-ishraq)", until Sayyidah Umm Hani bint Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated this hadith to me: (On the occasion of the Conquest of Makkah) the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to her house. He called for water for ablution, which came in a vessel that had the trace of dough in it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ablution, then he offered the Duha (forenoon) prayer, and then he said: "O Umm Hani! This is the Ishraq prayer."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains Abu Bakr al-Hudhali, who is da'if (weak).
