Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 11302

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "When Allah Almighty intended to keep Sayyiduna Yunus (peace be upon him) in the belly of the fish, Allah Almighty revealed to the fish: 'You are not to scratch his flesh, and you are not to break his bone.' The fish took Sayyiduna Yunus (peace be upon him) and then carried him to its dwelling place in the sea. When it reached the lowest part of the sea, Sayyiduna Yunus (peace be upon him) perceived a sound there, and he thought within himself: 'What is this?' Then Allah Almighty revealed to him, while he was in the belly of the fish: 'This is the glorification of the creatures of the earth.' So Sayyiduna Yunus (peace be upon him) glorified Allah while he remained in the belly of the fish. When the angels heard his glorification, they said: 'O our Lord! We hear a faint sound in a remote part of the earth.' Allah Almighty said: 'That is My servant Yunus, who disobeyed Me, so I have put him in the belly of the fish in the sea.' The angels said: 'He was a righteous man, from whom a righteous deed used to come to Your court every day.' Allah Almighty said: 'Yes.' Then on that occasion the angels interceded for Sayyiduna Yunus (peace be upon him), so Allah Almighty commanded the fish, and it cast him onto the shore, as Allah Almighty has said: 'And he was ill.'"
Al-Bazzar recorded it from one of his companions whom he did not name; its chain contains Ibn Ishaq, who is a mudallis, and the rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
