Sayyiduna al-Nawwas bin Sam'an (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When Allah Almighty intends to reveal revelation concerning a command, He speaks the revelation. When He speaks the revelation, a severe trembling seizes the heaven out of fear of Allah Almighty. When the inhabitants of the heavens hear it, they fall unconscious and fall down in prostration. Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) is the first of them to raise his head, and Allah Almighty speaks to him whatever He wills of His revelation. Then Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) takes it to the angels. Whenever he passes by a heaven, its inhabitants ask him: 'O Sayyiduna Jibril! What has our Lord said?' Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) says: 'The truth, and He is the Most High, the Most Great.' Then all the angels say the same as Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) said, until Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) brings that command to wherever he has been commanded, whether it relates to the earth or to the heaven."
Al-Tabarani recorded it from his teacher Yahya bin Uthman bin Salih, who has been declared trustworthy; he has been criticised without any specific defect, and the name of the critic has not been mentioned. The remaining narrators of this narration are thiqat (trustworthy).
