عَنْ قَتَادَةَ فِي قَوْلِهِ : ( وَإِذْ تَقُولُ لِلَّذِي أَنْعَمَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَأَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيْهِ ) وَهُوَ زَيْدُ بْنُ حَارِثَةَ أَنْعَمَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ بِالْإِسْلَامِ وَأَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيْهِ أَعْتَقَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ( أَمْسِكْ عَلَيْكَ زَوْجَكَ وَاتَّقِ اللَّهَ وَتُخْفِي فِي نَفْسِكَ مَا اللَّهُ مُبْدِيهِ ) قَالَ : كَانَ يُخْفِي فِي نَفْسِهِ وَدَّ أَنَّهُ طَلَّقَهَا . قَالَ : قَالَ الْحَسَنُ : مَا أُنْزِلَتْ عَلَيْهِ آيَةٌ كَانْتَ عَلَيْهِ أَشَدَّ مِنْهَا قَوْلُهُ : ( وَتُخْفِي فِي نَفْسِكَ ) وَلَوْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - كَاتِمًا شَيْئًا مِنَ الْوَحْيِ لَكَتَمَهَا ( وَتَخْشَى النَّاسَ وَاللَّهُ أَحَقُّ أَنْ تَخْشَاهُ ) قَالَ : خَشِيَ النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَةَ النَّاسِ ( فَلَمَّا قَضَى زَيْدٌ مِنْهَا وَطَرًا ) فَلَمَّا طَلَّقَهَا زَيْدٌ زَوَّجْنَاكَهَا قَالَ : فَكَانَتْ زَيْنَبُ بِنْتُ جَحْشٍ تَفْخَرُ عَلَى نِسَاءِ النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : أَمَّا أَنْتُنَّ فَزَوَّجَكُنَّ آبَاؤُكُنَّ وَأَمَّا أَنَا فَزَوَّجَنِي ذُو الْعَرْشِ ( وَاتَّقِ اللَّهَ ) قَالَ : جَعَلَ يَقُولُ : يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ إِنَّهَا قَدِ اشْتَدَّ عَلَيَّ خُلُقُهَا وَإِنِّي مُطَلِّقٌ هَذِهِ الْمَرْأَةَ ، فَكَانَ النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - إِذَا قَالَ لَهُ زَيْدٌ ذَلِكَ قَالَ لَهُ : ( أَمْسِكْ عَلَيْكَ زَوْجَكَ وَاتَّقِ اللَّهَ ) . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ رِجَالُ بَعْضِهَا رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .
Qatadah narrates regarding this statement of Allah Almighty: (Allah Almighty says:) "When you said to the one upon whom Allah had bestowed favour and upon whom you had also bestowed favour" - this refers to Sayyiduna Zayd bin Harithah (may Allah be pleased with him). Allah Almighty bestowed favour upon him by granting him Islam, and you bestowed favour upon him in that the Messenger of Allah freed him. (You said to him what is mentioned in the Qur'an in these words:) "Keep your wife with you and fear Allah Almighty, and you were concealing within yourself what Allah Almighty was going to reveal." Qatadah said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had concealed within himself the wish that Sayyiduna Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) would divorce that woman. The narrator says: Al-Hasan said: "No verse was revealed to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that was harder upon him than this one" - Allah Almighty said: "And you were concealing within yourself" - "Had the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) been one to conceal anything of the revelation, he would have concealed this verse: 'And you fear the people, while Allah Almighty is more entitled that you should fear Him.'" Al-Hasan said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was apprehensive of what people would say. "And when Zayd had concluded his matter with her" - that is, when Sayyiduna Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) divorced that woman - "We married her to you." The narrator says: Sayyidah Zaynab bint Jahsh (may Allah be pleased with her) used to express pride about this before the other wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), saying: "As for you, your fathers arranged your marriages, while my marriage was arranged by the Lord of the Throne." "Fear Allah Almighty!" The narrator says: This refers to the fact that Sayyiduna Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) had requested: "O Prophet of Allah! This woman's manners are becoming a hardship for me, and I wish to divorce this woman." So whenever Sayyiduna Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) made this request to him, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would say to Sayyiduna Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him): "Keep your wife with you and fear Allah!"
