Majma al-Zawaid 11223 — The tafsir of the story of the slander
وَعَنْ قَتَادَةَ فِي قَوْلِهِ الْخَبِيثَاتُ لِلْخَبِيثِينَ وَالْخَبِيثُونَ لِلْخَبِيثَاتِ مِنَ الْقَوْلِ وَالْعَمَلِ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ لِلطَّيِّبِينَ وَالطَّيِّبُونَ لِلطَّيِّبَاتِ مِنَ الْقَوْلِ وَالْعَمَلِ . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ وَإِسْنَادُهُ جَيِّدٌ .
Qatadah stated regarding this statement of Allah Almighty: (Allah Almighty says:) "Evil things are for evil people, and evil people are specific to evil things." Qatadah said: This refers to speech and deeds. "And good things are for good people, and good people are specific to good things." Qatadah said: This too refers to speech and deeds.
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its chain is jayyid (good).
