وَبِسَنَدِهِ عَنْهُ إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَعْنِي بَيْنَ قَذْفِ عَائِشَةَ يُحِبُّونَ أَنْ تَشِيعَ الْفَاحِشَةُ يَعْنِي أَنْ تَفْشُوَ وَيَظْهَرَ الزِّنَا فِي الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا يَعْنِي صَفْوَانَ وَعَائِشَةَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ يَعْنِي وَجِيعٌ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ فَكَانَ عَذَابُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أُبَيٍّ فِي الدُّنْيَا الْجَلْدَ وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ عَذَابَ النَّارِ وَاللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ وَأَنْتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ . وَرَوَى نَحْوَ هَذَا عَنْ قَتَادَةَ بِإِسْنَادٍ جَيِّدٍ ، وَرَوَى بَعْضَهُ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ بِإِسْنَادَيْنِ رِجَالُ أَحَدِهِمَا ثِقَاتٌ .
With the same chain it is reported from him: "Indeed, those people", that is, those who accused Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), "love that indecency should spread", that is, they want zina to spread and become open, "among those who believe", that is, Sayyiduna Safwan (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), "for them is a painful punishment", that is, an agonizing punishment, "in this world and the Hereafter." The punishment of Abdullah bin Ubayy in this world was that he was flogged, and in the Hereafter it will be that he is punished in Hell. "And Allah Almighty knows, and you do not know." Something similar has been reported from Qatadah with a jayyid (good) chain. He also reported part of it from Mujahid with two chains, the narrators of one of which are thiqat (trustworthy).
